Why does society dismiss a woman’s Decisions

Introduction

Today’s topic is deeply intriguing, especially because my own experience with it is quite fresh; and I would love to hear your thoughts on this as well. Sometimes, I smile at observation skill of mine, but mostly, I feel immense gratitude that Almighty Allah has blessed me with the ability to observe and understand human so deeply. So, today’s I  want to talk about how a woman’s decisions are often put under process or placed on the back burner, simply because she is woman or perceive as too emotional. Whether within the family or in broader society, her choices frequently given less value. I will also share a personal experience regarding this that happened to me just yesterday.

“If I make a mistake, please feel free to correct me. After all, I am only human and humans make mistakes.”

“And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned..”

Why society doubts a Women’s judgment?

It puzzles me why people still think this way today, especially when the majority are well educated and well versed in Islamic teachings. According to my analysis, there are various justifications given for the mindset. Some argue that women are highly emotional, which supposedly prevents them from making balanced, objectives decisions. Other claims that women panic easily under pressure and therefore prone to making wrong choices. Then there is the common excuse that women lack practical exposure; people argue that since women don’t step out into society as much, they lack the real world experience needed to make sound decision. Honestly, the public has so many opinion on this is I were to list them all, I would end up writing an entire article just on this point. This makes me wonder: “Do you also share these views and undervalue a woman’s decisions?”

“We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back..”

 A Personal Encounter:

To give you a real world example, I had a striking encounter just yesterday with a young woman. She looked at me and said, “You do know that woman lack the capacity to make sound decisions, right?” Surprised, I asked her to explain what she meant. She argued that a woman’s decision-making is naturally weaker than man’s. For instance, she claimed that is a woman is driving and sudden accident or emergency occurs, her first instinct is either to panic or to look for an escape route, often causing harm to herself. According to her, women completely lack incident response and crisis management skills, whereas a man would immediately take control of the situation instead of panicking or giving up.

“A women’s instinct is her greatest armor, and her caution is a shield of wisdom, not a sign of fear”

Hearing this from another woman was deeply ironic. It made me realize how deep-rooted these stereotypes are, to the point where women themselves begin to believe that men inherently possess better crisis management skills, or is this just another social myth.

The Truth Behind a women’s caution:

  • A Beautiful Creation: Women are blessing from Allah, Beautifully balancing roles as mother, sister, daughter, and wives with a heart full of love. Women can be as comforting as shade and as fierce as fire.
  • Caution is Not Weakness: When a woman hesitates or panics during a crisis, it is not due to weakness. Unlike men, women must constantly think about their safety and security first, assessing the environment and the people around them before reacting.
  • Emotional Intelligence:  Allah created women with a unique emotional depth. The empathy and care they bring into decision-making are strengths that men simply do not possess.
  • The Power of Mutual Decisions: Instead of dismissing a woman’s choice, society should value her perspective. Combining a man’s logic with a woman’s careful, multi-dimensional thinking leads too much better, well-rounded decisions.

During the treaty of Hudaybiyyah, when the companions hesitated to follow an order due to grief, The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took the advice of his wife, Hazrat Umme Salama (R.A). Her wise decision resolved a massive crisis.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Treat women well, for woman was created from a rib…” We continuously remind the world of the ultimate role models: Hazrat Hawwa, Hazrat Fatima, Hazrat Zainab, Hazrat Khadija, Hazrat Amna, Hazrat Ayesha(R.A). It is through their pristine character that today’s women will learn and grow, for they are the ones who nurture and shape our future generations. Whether as a mother, sister, daughter, or wife, a woman carries the honor of her family and her shoulders. Instead of tearing her down, we must empower, strengthen, and support her so she can lead with confidence.
